Does insurance cover a wig?

Sometimes, yes. When hair loss has a medical cause, a human hair wig or topper may qualify as a "cranial hair prosthesis", and many health insurance plans reimburse some or all of the cost. Coverage varies by plan, and original Medicare doesn't currently cover wigs or hairpieces.

How it works:

  1. Call your insurer and ask whether a cranial hair prosthesis is a covered benefit.
  2. Ask your doctor for a prescription and a letter of medical necessity.
  3. After you order, contact us with your order number. We'll prepare a cranial hair prosthesis invoice for your claim, free. We don't need any medical details.
